Where can I hire an e-bike in Waipu?

You can hire your e-bike from COAST E-Bike Rentals in the heart of Waipu Village. From here, you can set off on some of our favourite local rides, including the Waipu Cove Trail and the beautiful coastline around Waipu Cove.

Do I need to book my e-bike in advance?

Accepted Answer

We recommend booking ahead to make sure your preferred bike and date is available, particularly during summer, weekends and school holidays. Same-day bookings are also welcome, please just call us on 021 0789468 to arrange.

How old do I need to be to ride a COAST e-bike?

Accepted Answer

Riders must be 18 years or older to hire and ride an e-bike independently. Riders aged 15–17 are welcome to ride when accompanied by a responsible adult. We also have family-friendly bike options so younger passengers can join the adventure.

Question 4

I've never ridden an e-bike before. Is that okay?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. You don't need any previous e-bike experience. Before you leave, we'll fit you to your bike, explain the controls and electric assistance, and make sure you feel comfortable and confident before setting off.

Question 5

Do I need to be fit to ride an e-bike?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. The electric motor provides assistance while you pedal, helping make longer distances and hills much easier. Choose your level of assistance and enjoy the ride at your own pace.

Are your e-bikes suitable for families?

Accepted Answer

Yes! COAST is proudly family-friendly. We have bike configurations that allow little passengers to join the adventure, making it easy for families to get outside and experience Waipu together. What is the Waipu Cove Beach Ride?

One of our signature COAST experiences! Starting in Waipu Village, follow the new Waipu Cove Trail towards Waipu Cove Beach. It's a beautiful combination of village, countryside, trail and coastline all in one ride.

Question 8

Can I ride an e-bike on Waipu Cove Beach?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can but only to a certain point which we do not recommend it in peak season. Along the beach you will see a DOC sign that mentions no bikes past this point. During quiet season you are welcome to take them for a short ride along the beach at low tide up untill the sign.

How long is the bike hire for?

We offer Half Day or Full Day Hire options. 4 hours allows you plenty of time to ride any of our suggested trails as well as time to stop and enjoy the beach, take photos, grab a coffee or something to eat and explore along the way. If you would like longer for to enjoy a leisurely lunch or more beach time then we recommend a full day's hire.

What is included with my e-bike hire?

Your COAST hire includes your e-bike, helmet, bike lock and a pre-ride safety briefing. We'll also provide route recommendations and local tips to help you make the most of your adventure.

Do you provide helmets?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A safety helmet is included with your bike hire and must be worn while riding. We'll help make sure it's fitted correctly before you head off.

Question 12

What should I bring on my ride?

Accepted Answer

We recommend bringing water, sunscreen, sunglasses, comfortable clothing, wearing covered shoes, and your phone. If you're heading to the beach, throw in your swimwear and a towel too. And don't forget your camera — there are plenty of photo opportunities along the way! We have front mounted baskets available to hire to fit all your gear in should you need.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Safety comes first. If weather conditions aren't suitable for riding, we will get in touch and we'll work through the options available under our booking and cancellation policy.

Can we stop for coffee, lunch or a swim along the way?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely — we encourage it! COAST isn't about racing from one destination to another. Stop for coffee, grab some lunch, take photos, explore the beach or go for a swim. It's your ride, your pace! All we ask is that the bikes & helmets are secured safely using the lock provided.

Definitely. Instead of simply getting from A to B, the ride itself becomes part of your family day out. Our family-friendly bike options make it possible for little passengers to join in too.
